Storm Convert a Busy Long Weekend into wins

The Campbell River Storm had a busy Family Day weekend on the road, picking up three more wins and extending their unbeaten streak to 15 games.

The big story was on Saturday night. With a number of players out of the line-up with injuries including Goalie Jake Mullen, Riley Welyk would get the start. Early in the second, he received a punishing hit that knocked him out of the game. Sixteen-year old, Jaydlin Spooner took over in her first Junior hockey game and played well helping the Storm to a 6-3 win.

Spooner, who plays Female Midget with the Vancouver Island Seals, was excited for the opportunity.

The Storm played one of their best defensive games of the season shutting down the Glacier Kings offense but when called upon, despite the nerves, Spooner made some timely stops.

On Friday night, the Storm defeated Saanich 5-4 in overtime and Monday, they again beat the Glacier Kings, this time, 7-1.
