Improvements are underway to a global network of ocean sensors with the goal of better predicting weather events and tracking climate change.
B-C based Professor Emeritus, Doctor Howard Freeland recently published a paper on the first 15 years of data from the Argo sensor network.
He says the Argo project has already provided an enormous amount of data.
Freeland says the next generation of floats are carrying senors to measure the acidity of the oceans.
Ocean acidity has been raised as a concern by the aquaculture industry, as it can affect the shells of oysters and mussels.
