Trucking company donates to NIC trades course

Students in the heavy duty mechanical program at North Island College are benefiting from a donation from a local trucking company.

Bailey Western Star Trucks provided $5,000 to the College Foundation at its annual fundraising gala, which was used to purchase 4 transmissions for the students.

VP of Strategic Initiatives at the College, Randall Heidt, says these kind of donations can make a big difference for students’ training.

“It’s so vital to our students because they have the latest equipment…being able to have this, working on this now and fixing this now gives them that crucial experience to be excellent employees.”

Heidt says NIC is proud to have developed long-term relationships with employers in the region who continue to support students through donations like these.
