Wildfire exercise goes in Oyster River this weekend

Emergency crews from across the region will be in Oyster River this weekend for a wildfire exercise.

Comox Valley Emergency Program Coordinator Howie Siemens says fire departments, ambulance, RCMP, and emergency coordinators are all taking part in the simulation.

“What would we do on the ground and activate our plans to actually address an interface fire – which is a fire that’s in the forest and might spread to the trees or be in somebody’s home and might spread to the forest.”

He says the exercise’s scenario will be a fire starting in someone’s home and spreading into the trees.

Siemens says this is a chance for all the departments to be on the ground together and identify any gaps or areas that can be improved.

The exercise runs from 9 to 4 on Sunday.
