New home safety fire inspection program

The Campbell River Fire Department has begun a new home safety fire inspection program.

By request, fire suppression crews will visit homes and provide recommendations about smoke alarms, cooking, electrical systems, candles and other general fire safety information.

As part of the home safety fire inspection program, fire fighters will provide occupants with fire safety literature, answer questions residents may have regarding fire prevention and fire protection in the City of Campbell River fire protection area and ensure the home is protected by a smoke alarm.

Since 2009, it has been regular practice for crews to provide a working smoke alarms or fresh battery when they find a home unprotected by a smoke alarm during the course of their duties.

The current B.C. Building Code requires that at least one smoke alarm be installed in a residence:

  • on each floor level without sleeping room
  • inside each sleeping room
  • between sleeping room(s) and the remainder of the floor
  • in a hallway serving sleeping rooms

You can request a home safety fire inspection appointment by calling the fire department at (250) 286-6266.
