Island Health has launched a pilot project in the Cowichan Valley, that could decrease infant mortality rates.
They’ve been giving moms who’ve given birth since May 1 a special baby bed.
Kathy Easton is the manager for public health in the Cowichan Valley. She says the idea is to promote safe sleep for babies, and reduce the risk of sudden infant death.
Island Health says if the pilot project is a success they’ll take it island-wide. Vancouver Island’s infant mortality is slightly higher than the Canadian average.
