Campbell River Canada Day video focuses on First Nations healing

In light of the discovery of unmarked graves at Canada’s residential schools, Campbell River’s virtual Canada Day video will be a compilation of sharing by First Nations’ Chiefs, Leadership, and an Elder.

During this video, you’re asked to take the time to reflect on how you can help the First Nations’ communities heal.

The video can be viewed beginning tomorrow (July 1st) at noon on campbellrivercanadaday.ca and Shaw Spotlight Channel Four at 12:00pm and 5:30pm.

Campbell River Mayor Andy Adams said the city is taking the position of many other communities across Canada, in respecting our Indigenous neighbours.

He says that, as such, Canada Day festivities have been curtailed for this year.

“While Campbell River will not host a Canada Day event this year, it is my sincere hope that future celebrations will be an opportunity to recognize the whole character of our shared history, both the immense harm that’s been done, and the phenomenal achievements of our country,” Adams said in a statement.

The Residential School 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866-925-4419 is available to provide support for former students and anyone affected.
