Hospice Society gets donation of land from the City

The Campbell River Hospice Society will have a new location to call home thanks to a property donation from the City of Campbell River.

The society plans to construct an administrative and counseling office on a portion of 402 Evergreen Rd., with plans for future expansion and parking. The property to be donated is valued at approximately $194,011. Fees and charges associated with developing the property are estimated to be $35,000 to $45,000.

City Council endorsed the donation of a portion of the property to the society at its August 26, 2014 in-camera meeting. Council also agreed to provide grants-in-aid to cover fees and charges associated with the project such as re-zoning, development and legal costs – funded through Council’s contingency budget.

“I believe this is an extremely important contribution to our community, which will be available to area residents, free of charge, to provide necessary counseling, care and guidance to individuals dealing with dying, death and grieving,” said Iona Wharton, Director, Programs & Services for Campbell River Hospice Society.
