Province Making Slow Progress on Missing Women Inquiry

The Office of the Auditor General of B.C. says there are four areas that have impacted the government’s progress on the recommendations in the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry.

Carol Bellringer says funding, stakeholder engagement and reporting are three pieces impeding the progress on the recommendations.

Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Suzanne Anton, says there are plenty of champions working on the file.

Bellringer’s report, that looked into 21 of the 63 recommendations, makes only one recommendation – that government resume reporting publicly on its progress, which it stopped doing in 2014.

Anton says that issue will be addressed with a comprehensive report in 2017.
