On Saturday October 18, 2014 at 11:14 am, Campbell River RCMP responded to a call for a suicidal female. The female was on her cell phone telling family she was ready to end her life.
Officers were busy with a suspicious death, however all available resources broke away to attend to this call.
Police were able to trace her cell phone and determined the call was coming from Highway 28 near the Elk Falls exit. Her vehicle was located and the cell phone “ping” placed her cell phone within 150 metres from her vehicle.
Officers initiated a line search into the thick forest and located the female, who was barely conscious. Officers performed life saving medical treatment, and the female was transported to Campbell River General Hospital by BC Ambulance Service where she was admitted for treatment.
Because of the ability to trace her cell phone location and the quick action of the Campbell River RCMP officers, this woman is alive today.
