Campbell River's new mayor talks Rivercorp, taxes and spending

New Campbell River mayor Andy Adams took some time to address economic issues in the city at his inauguration Tuesday.

He spoke about Rivercorp’s planned internal review saying economic development will need to be more focused, results oriented and accountable. Earlier this week it was announced Rivercorp’s CEO was leaving the post and the board was not looking to fill the position.

Rivercorp is the city funded economic development group that is also responsible for tourism, and Adams says he will sit down with the board to work on their internal review.

Adams added he will sit down with the Rivercorp board to set a new direction.

On taxes and spending Adams says it is the responsibility of council to be fiscally prudent.

Adams acknowledged that the issue of taxation was very important to many local voters.

The council will very soon need to start their budget deliberations for 2015.
