A new program is helping to promote safe sleep for babies.
It’s a partnership between Island Health, The Baby Box Co. and others. The program provides a bed with solid walls, a firm mattress with a fitted sheet and other care items.
Island Health says sleep-related factors are the leading cause of death in healthy babies. Dr. Charmaine Enns, Island Health Medical Health Officer, says the safest way for a baby to sleep is on their back on a firm, uncluttered surface.
