Investigation Into Helicopter Crash Near YBL Begins

An investigation is underway into the cause of helicopter crash that killed one and injured another near Campbell River.

Staff Sargent with the Campbell River RCMP Troy Beauregard states a call came in around 5:00 pm regarding a crashed helicopter NW of the Campbell River airport.

“First responders attended to the location along with an RCMP Air Services helicopter from Comox.

Also attending was the 442 Squadron.”

Beauregard notes the helicopter was located in a heavily forested area, and two people were located at the crash site.

“First responders were able to walk into the scene, and were able to extracate an injured male, who was transported to Victoria for treatment.

The female occupant of the helicopter was at the scene, but was deceased.”

A full and collaborative investigation is being conducted by the Transportation Safety Board, RCMP and BC Coroners Service.
