First “Shakeout Then Get Out” a success

Officials are “very impressed” with Campbell River’s first “Shakeout Then Get Out”. Volunteers took part in the earthquake drill yesterday morning.

On top of the regular steps people need to take in an earthquake the Shakeout Then Get Out put emphasis on people getting out of the flood zone in the city that would happen if the dams were to break.

Strathcona Regional District Protective Services Coordinator Shaun Koopman says there was a good turnout of about 50 people who were all able to make it to a checkpoint before the water was predicted to arrive.

Koopman says there are plans to make this an annual event in Campbell River. He’s thanking everyone who took part.
