Only three of the five remaining generators are running at the John Hart station. BC Hydro says mechanical issues led to the shutdown of one of the units on Tuesday.
On top of that the water flow down Elk Falls Canyon has had to be increased so the utility is warning people to stay away from the river near and upstream of Elk Falls.
This will be in place until at least Friday when it’s hoped Generator 3 will be back online. There’s no timeline on when Generator 4, which was shut down in early October, will be back up and running.
