SRD Board Provides In-Principle Support to Tlowitsis Nation’s Land Bid

The Strathcona Regional District has approved a letter of support, in principle, regarding the Tlowitsis Nation’s Addition to Reserve (ATR) application.

The application is for 630 acres of land in SRD Electoral Area D on York Road, just south of Campbell River.

The SRD does not have full power to approve or reject the application, but the Board says it’s committed to helping move the First Nation’s plans forward in a respectful and professional manner.

The land is fee simple and is being purchased by the Tlowitsis Nation from Timber West.

If the ATR application goes through, the First Nation would use the property to create a community and home for the Tlowitsis people.

This project has been in the works for the past 18 months.
