Overdose deaths continue to rise in British Columbia, with Campbell River being no exception.
Numbers released by the provincial government show there have been 1,100 illicit drug overdose deaths in 2017. At this time last year the government says there were 607 deaths.
Dr. Charmaine Enns, Medical Officer of Health with Island Health, says it’s a problem in Campbell River:
Fentanyl was found in 83 per cent of the deaths province-wide, most often combined with other drugs.
Enns says it’s important to remember that these aren’t just numbers; that they represent people deserving of compassion:
