Fire destroys Campbell River family’s home

A fire has left a Campbell River family without a home.

It happened Wednesday afternoon at 678 7th Avenue. Just after 1:00pm Campbell River firefighters got a call about smoke coming from one of the units.

Deputy Chief Thomas Doherty says when they arrived they found heavy black smoke but thanks to a quick response were able to minimize the damage and prevent the fire from spreading.

It was caused by smoking material catching a piece of living room furniture on fire. Doherty says modern construction materials and furniture burn much faster which makes it all the more important for people to have working smoke alarms.

One person was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
