Mayor Adams not surprised about weed legalization delay

Not surprising.

That’s what Campbell River Mayor Andy Adams calls the news recreational marijuana won’t be legalized in Canada by July 1st.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made that announcement last month during an interview with Quebec’s TVA. Mayor Adams says the plan to have weed legalized by Canada Day was an overreach:

During his interview with TVA Trudeau said he expects weed to be legal sometime in the summer.

Mayor Adams says he welcomes the extension and is waiting to hear from the provincial and federal governments about transition and implementation strategies. He says the city can’t do anything without that framework:

Mayor Adams says he and council are supportive of legalization but that the “devil is in the details” when it comes to how it is administered.
