City clarifiying new gender-inclusive washroom policy

The City of Campbell River is clarifying its new gender-inclusive washroom policy.

The city says it’s establishing universally accessible washrooms that are separate, lockable units. These washrooms have no gender specification and are for use by single individuals.

The city says they’re similar to single-use family or wheelchair-accessible washrooms that are already available at many public facilities. They’ll be used alongside traditional male and female rooms as a way to give people additional options for privacy and security.

The city says establishing the gender-neutral washrooms in city facilities is a response to new human rights legislation.
