Mudslide traps two Campbell River seniors in home

A mudslide in Campbell River has led to the evacuation of four homes. The city says it happened Sunday morning when the slope behind a Park Road home gave way.

Two seniors were trapped inside when the mudslide brought down a tree that crashed into their home, partially collapsing it and moving it off its foundation.

The Campbell River Fire Department was able to rescue them and they’re now staying with family. No one was hurt.

The city says the evacuation order will stay in place until the safety of the area can be assessed professionally. The weekend’s heavy rains are to blame for the mudslide.
