Hold and secure at elementary schools called off

COMOX VALLEY, B.C.- The hold and secure at the elementary schools in the Comox Valley has been lifted.

It was put in place across School District 71 today as a safety precaution after the RCMP said there was credible evidence that one of the high schools was not safe.

The three secondary schools in the Valley (Mar R. Isfeld, GP Vanier and Highland) were closed and will remain closed for the rest of the day as the RCMP continue to investigate.

A statement from the RCMP reads, “anytime the RCMP receives information like this, it is taken very seriously and will be investigated until deemed not credible. There are protocols in place which enable the School District and Comox Valley RCMP to work together during these incidents, to ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

SD71 said it anticipates the high schools will reopen tomorrow.
