Mudslide evacuation order downgraded for two homes

An evacuation order has been downgraded for two homes in north Campbell River. The order was put in place for four homes after a mudslide on Sunday.

After professional assessment this week two homes are now under a lesser “evacuation alert” which means people can return to them as long as they’re ready to evacuate again if notified. The city says the evacuation order is still in effect for one home and the other was damaged to the point of being uninhabitable.

No one was hurt in the mudslide. The weekend’s heavy rains are to blame for the bank giving way.
