Safety notice for the Campbell River ending, remains in effect for Elk Falls

BC Hydro is backing off the water release down Elk Falls Canyon and the Campbell River.

BC Hydro says the storm that was forecasted for Sunday and Monday didn’t turn out to be as bad as originally predicted. It’s going down to about a tenth of what it was for Elk Falls.  The flow down the Campbell River is going down to about a third of what it is now.

Meanwhile the Upper Campbell Reservoir/Buttle Lake is currently at about 218 metres, but that may slowly increase as the downstream flood risk management water release ends today.

BC Hydro says it’s still asking people to stay away from Elk Falls but that the warning to keep away from the Campbell River will end this evening.
