UPDATE: Conflicting accounts of hotel fire emerge

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Conflicting reports about a fire at the Harbourside Inn have emerged. It happened last night around 9:00pm at the hotel on Shopper’s Row.

According to the Campbell River Fire Department a number of people were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. However Barbara Chapman, the inn’s manager, says only one person from the hotel was taken to hospital.

Chapman says a chair caught fire, and that while it did produce a lot of smoke, the fire was out before the fire department arrived.

People were evacuated for a time though as fans were used to clear the smoke out of the building. Chapman says no one is out of a place to live.

We’ve reached out to the Campbell River Fire Department for further comment.
