City working on plan to deal with downtown “disturbances”

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-The city says it’s taking steps to cut down on “disturbances” in downtown Campbell River.

City manager Deborah Sargent says staff have been directed to come up with a report outlining the options available to council to improve the situation.

Sargent says the disturbances include inappropriate behaviour and illegal activities such as open drinking and the use of drugs. She says council takes the issue very seriously:

She says they’re working with the RCMP, social services, charities and business owners to come up with a solution:

Sargent added Campbell River city council’s top priority is revitalizing the downtown area and that city hall takes the issue very seriously.
