Are you ready for wildfire season?

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-Wildfire season is just around the corner. With that in mind the city hall is asking residents if they’re ready for it.

Fire season officially gets underway in British Columbia on April 1. Jason Hutchinson with the Campbell River Forestry Task Force says people need to be prepared ahead of time in case there is a wildfire.

That includes doing things like clearing dead trees from your property and making sure you have a roof on your home with fire proof material. Hutchinson says you also need to have a plan with your family on what to do if a fire hits and a 72 hour emergency kit on hand and ready to go.

You can also learn more about wildfire management next Sunday. Journalist Ed Struzik, author of Firestorm: How Wildfires Shape our Future, will be at the Campbell River Museum at 1:00pm. He’ll be discussing how he believes wildfire management should be changed in the face of the changing climate.

You can find more information on wildfire emergency preparedness at the Government of Canada’s website.
