A Campbell River ship yard has just won a major contract with the Department of National Defence.
Laura Kempling the Quality systems manager at Ocean Pacific Marine store and boat yard, says they have been contracted to build two submarine fender barges that will be what a Victoria Class submarine rest against.
She says they were all very excited with the news.
Once they are finished the fenders will be towed to the Esquimalt Naval Base.
Ocean Pacific has a history of working with DND on contract projects.
