A brush along a logging road appears to have been human caused, and was spreading quickly when Campbell River Fire Rescue was called to the scene last evening.
Just before 5 p.m. April 14, Campbell River Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire at the 7km marker on the Duncan Bay Logging Road off Willis Road.
When crews arrived, a ground fire approximately 60ft by 30ft was burning along the side of the logging road – and spreading quickly.
“Strong winds in the area were helping the fire grow, but the fire crews were able to contain the fire to an area approximately 100 feet by 40ft, using the logging road and nearby side road as natural fire guards and extending hose lines around the perimeter,” says deputy fire chief Thomas Doherty.
“The recent warm weather and drying trends could mean an early start to the wildfire season. Campbell River Fire Rescue would like to remind the public to use caution with fire in the backcountry,” Doherty adds.
