Storm have great season, despite last place Cyclone Taylor Cup finish

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C.-All in all it was a disappointing outing for the Campbell River Storm at the Cyclone Taylor Cup. The Boys in Black and Red came in last at the provincial Junior B hockey championship over the weekend in Richmond.

The Storm went 1-1-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament, losing to the Richmond Sockeyes 4-1, beating the Kimberley Dynamiters 9-0, and losing in overtime to the Delta Icehawks 3-2. Despite destroying the Dynamiters the day before, the Storm lost the bronze medal game to Kimberley 7-1 on Sunday. The hosting Sockeyes were eventually crowned the 2018 Cyclone Taylor Cup champions.

Even with the fourth place finish in the tournament, the Storm had a successful season overall. They led the VIJHL in the regular season, putting up a 36-6-6 record before going on to beat the Saanich Braves in a thrilling, seven game affair to claim their tenth Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy.

The Storm are guaranteed another crack at the Cyclone Taylor Cup next year, as Campbell River has been chosen to host in 2019, and the host team is given a bye into the tournament.
