Area D boundary extension plans move forward after vote in council

The City of Campbell River is moving ahead with their planned boundary extension for the Northern section of Area D, despite opposition from Area D residents.

Tuesday night council voted to put the plan forward to the Province and get a referendum on the issue on the books.

Councillor Andy Adams voted in favor of moving ahead saying he wants finality to this, once and for all.

Councillor Larry Samson voted against making the offer to bring sewer service to 537 properties, in phase 1 and 2 of the expansion area, in exchange for joining the City.

“This has been going on for 30 years,” says Stan Zook, an Area D resident, who presented Campbell River City council with his opinion on the proposed boundary extension.

He calls it an annexation and says there is a flaw with the fact the whole plan is based on problems with sewers.

It is expected that in June residents of the Northern Area D properties affected will be asked in a referendum if they want to join the city and get sewer service.
