Illegal dumping program finds 120 sites in one year

COURTENAY, B.C.-Comox Strathcona Waste Management is cracking down on illegal dumpers in the area.

This week is Earth Week, which marks the first year milestone of the company’s program aimed at preventing the practice. Since it was launched, the company says 120 illegal dump sites and dozens of dumpers have been found, leading to 70,000 kg of waste being removed. The fine for illegal dumping is $500.

Comox Strathcona Waste Management says since a majority of the dump sites were found in the Comox Valley, the program will now be turning its focus to the Campbell River area for its next education phase.
