Big Rock Boat Ramp re-opens after upgrades

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The Big Rock Boat Ramp upgrades are finished, and the popular facility is open to the public again.

According to a news release from the city, the re-opened ramp now has improved breakwaters, a refinished ramp, new floating dock system, as well as additional parking.

The ramp is now wider with a reduced angle, repaved with a high traction finish. The new floating docks allow year-round access and temporary moorage on both sides, and the higher breakwaters provide better protection from the waves and will prevent gravel build-up in the basin and access channel.

“Improvements to Big Rock Boat Ramp have been needed for a very long time, and it is an exciting milestone to see this community amenity finally upgraded. We’re glad to see this goal of council’s achieved in this term,” said Mayor Andy Adams.

Improving the ramp itself is phase one of the project. Phase two will involve upgrades to the parking lot and park area, which will include installing park benches, picnic tables and public amenities such as washrooms and a potential fish cleaning station.
