Campbell River Storm whipping up wins

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The Campbell River Storm have swept to the top of their division.

The defending Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League champions lead the North Division with an 8-3 record.

With 24 points in 11 games, the Storm are four points up on the second place Nanaimo Buccaneers (6-4-1) and 12 points ahead of the third-place Oceanside Generals (4-6).

And still winless in 10 games, the Comox Valley Glacier Kings sit at the bottom of the standings.

The Storm are coming off a 6-1 win over the Generals in front of a full house at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.

The hosts outshot the visitors 43-12, including 12-3 in the final frame.

Davis Frank led the Storm with a pair of goals while Radek Hewson, Austin Dennison, Mike Dyck, and Damon Kramer had the other tallies.

A melee with 2:12 to go in the final frame saw a handful of players ejected, including Frank and the Generals’ Caymon Fraude, who were assessed fighting majors.

The Storm are back in action on Friday (Oct. 12) when they host the Saanich Braves, who lead the VIJHL’s South Division with a 9-0-0-1 mark.
