School trustee candidates meet tonight at Thunderbird Hall

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Tonight, candidates hoping to sit as one of School District 72’s trustees will meet at Thunderbird Hall.

The meeting is organized by the District Parents Advisory Council (DPAC) for Campbell River.

School trustees help guide the school district’s work, set plans, policies, and the annual budget.

An issue that has been making the rounds is the SOGI 123 resource, and whether some of the trustees are for it or want it removed. SOGI 123 is two years old, first becoming available in 2016. The resource is designed to help teachers and educators across the province to create inclusive classrooms for LGBTQ students. Some school trustee candidates have been running on a platform against the resource.

The meeting will be from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Residents will get a chance to ask questions regarding the candidates’ platforms to better inform themselves before voting in advanced polls or on October 20th.
