Local youth being investigated for alleged residential break-in, firearm theft

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A Campbell River youth was arrested after the RCMP found an unloaded handgun in his backpack.

Police were called to a local park when the youth was seen showing another young person a handgun.

The RCMP initially responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on Dogwood St. on October 9th, where a handgun and a shotgun were allegedly stolen along other items. The handgun found on the young person the very next day was confirmed to be the same one from the residence.

The youth has now been released on court documents.

He is facing possible charges of unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, break and enter, theft and possession of property obtained by crime.

Authorities later located the shotgun. They determined it wasn’t stolen, but two other youths are under investigation as part of the incident.

Names of the youths are not being released due to their ages.
