City marks Waste Reduction Week

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – This week marks Canada’s 17th annual Waste Reduction Week.

The initiative is a way to raise awareness on different ways to reduce waste. The City of Campbell River will be sharing different ways to reduce waste on its Facebook page.

Residents are invited to comment and share their own ideas.

“Are you taking advantage of the new pilot program to recycle additional plastic packaging in Campbell River? Maybe you’ve come up with creative ways to reduce food waste, and you’re using a backyard composter for kitchen scraps. Or maybe your family is big on second hand shopping and donating clothes that can be used by other people,” said Amber Zirnhelt, the city’s manager of long range planning and sustainability, in a release.

“Or maybe you’ve got a system to share and repair useful items. Let us know how you’re reducing waste. There’s a chance you’ll inspire other people to do the same.”

Comments can be provided through two different Facebook pages – the Campbell River City Hall page and the Sustainable Campbell River page.

More information about the Waste Reduction Week initiative can be found here.

Waste Reduction Week runs through to Sunday, October 21st 2018.
