BIA planning for better lighting in Campbell River’s downtown core

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – During the Downtown Business Improvement Association annual meeting, the members talked about lighting up Campbell River’s downtown core for increased safety, especially during night time.

Currently, there is only one street light in the downtown area.

“We realized just how dark our downtown is. In fact, if you’re coming out of the Tidemark and look toward the Art Gallery and the Visitor Centre, there’s no light. And the other thing we’d like to do is light up the mural because that would light up that whole area, and I think it would make a huge difference. Because that one part of 11th is quite dark,” said Jan Wade, executive director of the BIA.

The BIA will be installing Christmas lights as part of the plan to light up the area. The request to install streetlights in the downtown core must first go through city council. The BIA will put the request once the election is over and council is back in session.
