Campbell River commemorates Remembrance Day

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Campbell River residents joined members of the Royal Canadian Legion in commemorating the 100th year since World War I, and to celebrate veterans.

Veterans, current members of the force, police officers, as well as fire department officers marched from the Service Canada parking lot on Alder St., making their way down St. Anne’s and then Shopper’s Row, stopping at the Cenotaph in Spirit Square.

When asked what their hopes are moving forward on this day, a Campbell River resident said, “for people to know peace in their hearts, because that’s where it starts.”

Some residents said they hoped future generations won’t have to experience the horrors of wars, and that Remembrance Day will continue to serve as a way to remember peace. Others said today is a good time to remember and give thanks for the peace we now have, and for the sacrifice our veterans have made.
