Pothole between 5th and 6th Avenues causing flat tires, damaged vehicles

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – A pothole has left a few Campbell River residents’ cars damaged.

Some residents reported driving over it between 5th and 6th Avenues, roughly around 580 Island Highway.

Leigha Fane was a passenger in her grandmother’s car when they drove over it. Fane’s grandmother’s car suffered a flat tire.

“We had to wait a long time to come by and replace (the tire). My grandma said she won’t drive in that area anymore because the whole experience was very upsetting to her,” Fane wrote in a message.

She added her grandmother is one of the lucky ones whose car didn’t sustain as much damage as others’ have.

Another Campbell River resident, Emma Marshall, said she thinks she was the first person to drive over the pothole. She said it felt like she drove into a wall.

“My car’s not an old car – it’s a 2010. But I have little tires and it was crazy. I hit my face on the steering wheel and I didn’t even know what happened. It ripped a huge hole in my tire,” Marshall said. She added the pothole looked like it was just another puddle of water, which was why hitting it was such a surprise to her.

She suffered a flat tire, as well as a bent front bearing.

“I can’t even drive my car… at first I thought maybe it was just me, but then all of a sudden more people started pulling over.”

The MyCampbellRiverNow.com newsroom has reached out to the city, but they have not responded to our request for comment yet.
