Wind warning still in effect for eastern Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast

VICTORIA, B.C- Strong winds are still blowing along the coast today.

Environment Canada has updated their wind warning for Eastern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, which is running from Campbell River to Fanny Bay and Powell River to Gibsons.

Strong winds that could cause damage are expected or occurring, as a Pacific frontal system moves across the south coast. It is expected to give southeasterly winds of 60 to 80 kilometres per hour across most of the inner coastal regions, easing in the afternoon as it moves inland.

“In the wake of the front, strong westerly winds up to 70 km/h are expected to develop over Greater Victoria near Juan de Fuca Strait this evening,” read the warning.

“The winds will ease Wednesday morning.”

Loose objects could be tossed by the wind, and cause injuries or damages. Drivers should be prepared to adjust their travels due to changing road conditions from the high winds.
