“Blessed”: new Habitat homeowner receives keys to new home

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Carlye Burton said she is extremely blessed by the generosity of Habitat for Humanity.

Burton received the keys to her new home in a key ceremony on Habitat’s build site at 477 Hilchey Road. Another family received the keys for their own unit today.

“There really isn’t any word… I’ve been blessed since the day I started and these people are unbelievable. Every day, I’m so grateful for everything that they do,” Burton said.

“They work for people they don’t know and they put their hearts and passion and commitment just building homes for people who they’ve never met before.”

She said the whole process took almost two years. From a lengthy application to working full-time and volunteering her time for the organization, she said it feels good to finally come to a conclusion.

Burton volunteered at Habitat’s ReStore and spent 100 hours at the build site helping to build her own home.

“It’s pretty amazing to be able to show my daughter that hardwork and dedication and passion will actually get you what you need in life.”

The Hilchey build site will ultimately house 11 families in total. Currently, there are two duplexes with a third one ready for the lockup stage.
