North Island windstorm expected to ease by midday

NORTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C. – A wind warning remains in effect for Northeastern Vancouver Island.

The warning is in effect for East Vancouver Island from Courtenay to Campbell River and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay, and the Sunshine Coast from Saltery Bay to Powell River.

What Environment Canada is calling an “intense” frontal system will remain stalled over the region this morning with southeast winds of 70 km/h continuing over exposed coastal sections of East Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast until midday today, before the front weakens.

Meanwhile, passengers heading to Hornby Island and Denman Island are back on board with BC Ferries.

BC Ferries has resumed sailing to Hornby Island (Shingle Spit) and Denman Island (Gravelly Bay).

The Kahloke has resumed sailing as of 8:42 a.m.

For passengers heading from Comox to Powell River, the Salish Raven is currently operating 51 minutes behind schedule due to a staffing issue.
