Downtown Campbell River mural now has night lighting

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The dreamscape mural in Shoppers Row has gotten dreamier.

The 22 by 11-foot mural at the corner of Shoppers Row and 11th Avenue is now illuminated at night.

According to a release from the city, the Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA) first initiated planning for the mural lighting. Work was completed in partnership with the City of Campbell River.

The city funded the $15, 000 project through the Downtown Small Initiatives Program.

“The city had been working towards identifying lighting opportunities following the roll out of the Refresh Downtown strategy in 2017, so the project was timely,” Amber Zirnhelt said, the city’s long range planning and sustainability manager.

The mural was funded through Campbell River’s 2017 Downtown Facade Improvement Program and the Downtown BIA.

Through the Downtown Small Initiatives Program, the City of Campbell River has been increasing programming and beautification in the downtown area.

Other initiatives completed over the last three years include canopy lighting, planter maintenance, installation of parklets, bike racks, new waste receptacles, wayfinding signs, bistro seating, and the Campbell River Live Streets event series.
