SD 72 asking for public feedback on 2019/2020 school calendar

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The Campbell River school district’s Board of Education is asking for residents’ opinion.

According to a release from School District 72, the board passed a motion to make the draft calendar for school year 2019/2020 available for public feedback.

The calendar consultation process will give an opportunity for representatives from the Board of Education, Campbell River Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association, Campbell River Teachers’ Association, CUPE Local 723, the District Parent Advisory Council, senior management, the Core Pro-D coordinator, Indigenous Education Advisory Council, and students from Carihi and Timberline secondary schools to have their say.

The proposed calendar currently has schools opening on the first Tuesday after Labour Day with a weeklong spring break. According to the release, feedback so far indicates more people asking for a two-week spring break. However, this would mean making instructional days longer as Easter falls late next year. Making school days longer would require extensive consultation and consideration.

Residents can send feedback from now until March 15th. Feedback can be sent by email to school.calendar@sd72.bc.ca.

A copy of draft calendar can be found at www.sd72.bc.ca/calendar.
