Campbell River school district waiting for direction on mandatory vaccine reporting

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Starting this school year, parents will have to provide a record of their children’s immunization.

Minister of Health Adrian Dix made the announcement earlier this week.

There were no specific details released on how the new reporting system will work across the province, and school districts have not received directives about it yet.

According to Campbell River’s school district superintendent Jeremy Morrow, School District 72 is on board with the announcement.

“We are aware of (the announcement). We haven’t received details yet on how this will be implemented and managed but once we do receive directions, we’ll take whatever action we need to do to ensure compliance,” Superintendent Morrow said.

He added that once they get directives, they will work closely with Island Health.

“We’ll likely work with them around how that information (immunization records) will be collated.”

The announcement comes after a measles outbreak in Vancouver, which began with unvaccinated students. Currently, there are 15 confirmed cases of the measles in Vancouver.
