A Facebook page filled with photos of garbage has managed to attract more than 1100 followers in 5 days.
Stop Illegal Garbage Dumping – Vancouver Island was started by Nanaimo resident Louise Gilfoy, after she found a pile of trash near her home.
Gilfoy says the public shaming idea is catching on, and people are submitting photos of garbage dumped in the woods, along riverbanks, and at the bottom of cliffs.
Gilfoy says the goal is to raise awareness about the severity of the issue, and maybe catch some of the offenders along the way.
She’s also hoping to organize some cleanup efforts.
