CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – School District 72 will be participating in a new provincial initiative.

The program aims to strengthen the connection between early childhood educators and primary school teachers, which in turn increase emotional well-being outcomes for young children.

Under the program, the Campbell River school district will receive a facilitator, as well as provisions to allow an additional three to four sites for use in combination with StrongStart programs, schools, and early learning facilities.

According to a release from the school district, the intent of the program is to improve the quality of practices tied to teaching social and emotional wellbeing. The program also aims to increase collaboration and strengthen relationships between early childhood educators and primary school teachers.

The program will also provide young children with opportunities and skills that will foster their social and emotional capability.

During Tuesday’s board meeting, assistant superintendent Nevenka Fair said SD 72 is currently in preliminary meetings learn more about the program, but Quadra Elementary has already been picked as one of the sites.

Other meetings will be held with the early learning community to determine the other sites. More information on the program will be released with the board and the community as the project goes on.
