RCMP remind pet owners about hot weather safety

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C – Campbell River RCMP are reminding pet owners that as the weather outside gets warmer, pets should be left at home.

According to a release, in recent weeks Campbell River RCMP has responded to several complaints of animals being left in hot vehicles, or being left outside in public areas with no water.

The Campbell River RCMP would also like to remind the public that leaving your pet inside a vehicle on a hot day, could result in cruelty to animal charges.

The release also mentioned that taking actions against someone else’s property or their animals could put yourself in danger and escalate a situation. They say if you see an animal in distress, you should contact the SPCA, or the RCMP.

RCMP also said that the best option for pet owners as the temperature increases, is to leave your pets at home.

If you do see an animal in distress, contact your local RCMP detachment, or the BCSPCA.
