Property tax information published by City of Campbell River

CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – Property tax notices are coming soon, and the City of Campbell River would like to help residents understand where the dollars go.

In a release, the city said there will be brochures along with the notices. The brochures detail how tax dollars and user fees help fund more than 100 government services in Campbell River.

“Tax Facts explains the relationship between property assessments and taxation, and how the key factor in tax increases is how much the property assessment increased in comparison to the average Campbell River home,” wrote Campbell River’s finance manager Alaina Maher.

“Tax Facts also highlights that Campbell River property taxes and user fees compare favourably to other B.C. communities with a similar population.”

Maher added that residents may not know that only less than half of the city’s budget is funded through local property taxation. Approximately 35 per cent of the property tax payments are collected to fund provincial and regional services such as the hospital, schools, and the library.

The release added the notice and brochure will also include a list of payment options, as well as an application for pre-authorized withdrawals for 2020 property taxes.

Property tax payments can be mailed or paid in person at city hall, and must be paid by July 2nd to avoid penalties.

The brochure can be found on the city’s website under “city services/property taxes”. Paper copies are also available at city hall.
